Leaks Construction Donates Work To The Common Place

In June, newly installed TCP Board member Rich Scott set up a meeting between Peter Grim (TCP Executive Director) and Dennis Shortall of Leaks Construction Company to tour The Common Place. After hearing the TCP story and our mission to serve children and families of SW Philadelphia, he asked “What do you need?” Peter proceeded to identify a number of items in need of framing and dry-wall repair while pointing out that this “wish list” could not be achieved at present due to budget constrictions. The next day, Dennis called to say that his organization would not only provide the skilled labor needed to complete the projects identified but would work with suppliers to have all of the materials donated as well!

The Leaks construction crew arrived two weeks later and proceeded to go to work building walls, installing doors, creating closet space, fabricating panels and plastering walls. In response to TCP’s expression of appreciation for this work, Dennis responded with the following words, “It is our pleasure to be in a position to help The Common Place. When we first spoke about what you offer to the community I knew it was an ideal situation for us to get involved. After all myself and most of the people who work with me have been born and raised in the city, we were much more fortunate than children today. Opportunities like this are what keeps it real for us knowing just how fortunate we really have been during our youth.”

A huge thank you to Rich Scott for making this introduction and to Leaks Construction for their generosity!

There is always something new going on at TCP. Those that return from previous visits are always amazed at the continuous improvements made to this beautiful 100+ year old building as well as the continuous enhancements to our programming tailored to serve the community. Please come to take a personal tour and learn more about what we do. Contact Peter Grim at Pwgrim@comcast.net to set up a visit.
