Melva Lowry is a nonprofit professional with over 20 years of engagement in this sector. She received her undergraduate degree in Political Sociology from Agnes Scott College, focused on the interconnectedness between community development and political engagement.

Melva has a passion for youth and young adult development and worked several years around D.C. working with various nonprofit organizations centered on youth. Melva has obtained three Masters from two Seminaries, including a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Georgia State University’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. She is active both in the public and religious sectors of nonprofit work and is ordained as an Ruling Elder in the PC(USA).
Before coming to work with The Common Place, Melva served as Executive Director for The Asheville Poverty Initiative in Asheville, North Carolina as its first Black Director. Melva also created Mentoring Entrepreneurs LLC, an ideation consulting company that has grown from her love of administration and building up a new generation of leaders.
