Carl’s Kitchen Grand Opening

The Common Place celebrated the completion of its commercial kitchen named in honor of Carl Brooks-Lytle in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 18th, 2019. Carl’s Kitchen was filled with donors and members of the community as music from Southwest Philadelphia Children’s Community Choir and V. Shayne Frederick filled the space in the lower level of TCP.

Former Organizing Pastor of The Common Place Rev. Aisha Brooks-Lytle, (now Executive Presbyter of Greater Atlanta) attended and reflected on the transformational process of the kitchen from disrepair to a functional place that will provide nutrition education and access to the Southwest Philadelphia community. Along with Aisha were her son Ellington, the parents of her late husband Carl, and other friends and family.

At the end of the program, Aisha joined Rev. Casey Thompson, Rev. Cean James, Rev. Christopher Holland, and Peter Grim to officially cut the ribbon. Carl’s Kitchen is officially open for programming!
